First of all Anon, you must realize that les mis fandom is out of control when it comes to ship.
This fandom shipped anything at some point, just because they wanted. And that’s fine.
Honestly, it’s the first time I see the Jehan/Combeferre and Id’ like to see the interactions you talk about? It’s new and I’m curious.
Anyway, back to the question: Why I think a lot of people ship Jehan/Courfeyrac?
Back in my days…which means after the movie came out and the fandom grew bigger ( I came into the fandom thanks to the movie myself ) ships grew bigger as well.
I’m sure you’ll find some ship manifesto around tumblr, but generally the ship was born because they were both super cute.
Courfeyrac was the extrovert guy full of energy and Jehan was the shy poet in love, so they fit.
I shipped them myself for a while. They were the happy/cute ship among a lot of painful ships (read: enjolras/grantaire)
Personally I’m glad that people started shipping Combeferre/Courfeyrac, but that’s another story.
I’m not a Jehan/Courfeyrac expert, I get down of that wagon a long ago. Like I shipped it for…a month, so don’t take me too seriously.
Oh, i ship Jehan/Combeferre as the anon does and i want to have a word on this because they’re so important to me. For all i remember they have just one scene together in the book:
After Enjolras kills Le Cabuc: “Jean Prouvaire and Combeferre pressed each other’s hand silently, and, leaning against each other in an angle of the barricade, they watched with an admiration in which there was some compassion, that grave young man, executioner and priest, composed of light, like crystal, and also of rock.”
I really love that they’re comforting each other in this scene and i like to think -being Prouvaire and Combeferre so similar- that there’s a strong friendship between them, even if it’s not shown in the book.
Also is Combeferre who suggests to trade Javert for Jehan.: ‘Well,’ resumed Combeferre, ‘I am going to fasten my handkerchief to my cane, and go as a flag of truce, to offer to exchange our man for theirs.’
I love them so much :’)
